Are you brushing your teeth right? Here’s what you should know
Your smile is a great part of your beauty. This makes your teeth indeed an essential part of you, and hence, should be well taken care of. There are people with the finest looks and facial features, but when they smile, their nonaligned or yellowish teeth too, don't fail to catch one’s attention. A lot of us believe that a person’s beauty has a lot to do with his/her oral health since the appearance of one's teeth is a reflection of personal hygiene. A simple smile can break or make how people are attracted towards a person regardless of how perfect he or she may look. So, to ensure a beautiful smile, your oral hygiene is imperative and therefore, we decided to start with the basics of brushing the teeth right.

How to Brush Your Teeth Correctly?

Though we brush our teeth daily since childhood, a good number of people are not aware of the right way to brush the teeth. Most people brush their teeth in the back and forth motion until they feel they have managed to clear away all food particles and plaque. Well, this isn’t the right way to brush teeth. This method scrubs away tooth enamel leading to teeth sensitivity, which is a condition of feeling pain or sensitivity while consuming hot and cold liquids and food. Also, this method is not recommended because the back and forth motion causes you to miss cleaning the spaces between the teeth, to remove plaque and other tiny particles of food.

Techniques and Right Tools for Brushing

  • Do not rush through brushing. Initial brushing should be in a small circular motion with the brush at a 45-degree angle to the teeth.
  • Teeth should be cleaned vertically, and not from left to right as this can damage the gums, to clean food debris and plaque.
  • The inside surfaces of the teeth should be brushed properly too. Quite a people skip doing so considering that unexposed part does not matter. This is not a good practice for one’s oral health.
  • Toothbrushes with soft to medium bristles are recommended, and it is essential to replace a toothbrush every three months. If you notice that the bristles of the brush are getting damaged, replace the toothbrush immediately.
  • Flossing is important for oral health because it removes food matter that accumulates between the gaps in your teeth. This should be done every day as a part of your night brushing routine.
  • Mouthwash is effective against bad breath and refreshes the mouth, but should not be a substitute to brushing.
